Cake FFXIV Server Watch

I'm creating this thread in response to the adding of the 'world selection' to FFXIV. Those of you who were lucky enough to get in to the Beta can use this thread to co-ordinate your server choice based on its Cake content! I've listed the number of Cake players on each server in brackets. I'm not listing peoples names to avoid NDA disputes. If you want to be added to the count then PM me or post at your peril!

If you weren't lucky enough to get in to the Beta then we can use this to plan out what server we will all play on! Hopefully Cake will have a strong presence in both games for a while to come.

I've already seen screenshots of people named "Tifa Lockheart", "Tifa Strife", "Zidane Tribal"... I'm not looking forward to the ONE person that gets the name Sephiroth on the Sephiroth server, then the legions of "Sephiroth VII", "Neo Sephiroth" and so on. Well, hopefully this server will act as a magent to keep them away from us on another server... xD

Why don't they just have a bunch of restricted names for FF characters, politicians and equally annoying names...?

Restricting several names would be a nice idea, but I'm sure ppl would find a way around it and come up with some weird spelling of their favourite Name just so they could have it

I liked the name restrictions on RP-Servers in WoW - you could send a complaint via GM-ticketing about players not having an apropriate name and they were forced to change it by the GM's

Make a private board, for the beta3 players, that way Google can't get at it. Although SE isn't going to make a big deal of this now, as they are handing out beta access to journalists and whatnot now.

Actually.... let's pick a different server... based on name. You just know Sephiroth will be the #1 choice of you know who (.. or what)... but I think Shadowlord will not be far behind. I'm betting Golbez will get the fewest picks except for Gintama fans while the other names should be known to FF fans.

On the other paw... if as predicted, FF4Teen will grab some of FFXI's population (I swear, I've downloaded the client like two dozen times now, lol), so we might want to pick a server with a name like Sephiroth so when they decide to merge servers or similar we'd already be on a server they might want to keep.

At least the servers that are exposed to the public now are not 'beta only' servers although we will all get 'wiped' anyway. (We hope)

This was so much easier for FF11, I moved from test to retail by picking the oldest server (there were four) and by alphabetical order (B... for Bahamut). A large number of guides and GMs also did it this way lol. It was the #1 pick by 8 to 1 or higher.

I would vote for Jecht server since its the shortest name and short is better.

Well, if you want your name listed against a server (and aren't worried about the NDA) then just post a response and I'll put you in the thread. As for server name I'm just waiting to see where most people are then I'm going to join that one (in the main release).

They so need companies or a friend list in the Beta!

Friend List will be in soon hopefully, despite the name change.

As for servers and names... I can be on any server actually, I have at least two slots per server free. If I knew for sure who was in SL/etc, I could make new characters on SL. It can be very hard to meet up otherwise unless you know who to /t. Oh well, its not that important now. We've got a month and a half before retail finally starts.

Get Branmuffin to open a private board with you as admin, then the relevant people PM you for access... voila!

I know the NDA this and that.... but we have journalists blogging ingame now. Websites are giving away 'beta' access as prizes in contests. I'm expecting an article by Shamus Young anytime now...

Its a nightmare meeting up with anyone you might know in game due to no friend list or linkshells, but apparently Beta V3 is a stones throw away and will reflect more of a retail version of the game, so hopefully will include these features!

I do hope they hurry things along a tad faster. I'd hate to install the retail DVD... then wait 12 hours to patch it. (There's a way around this apparently but noone knows for sure it will work on retail)

Anyway, we need to know which server (presumably SL), names (because you have just /t) and times (makes the first two factors easier to cope with).

Hmm... what about the name....? Just 'Cake' has a certain attraction to it, simple and short. Or 'Cake Company' to round it all off and to forestall 'Cake Recipe'. You just know someone's going to make AAA Company. Plus we can attach a new meaning to 'CC' (Those bunch of sissies from CC!)

Or maybe we can change the language... 'Kuko Kampanio' and associated 'Kuketo Kampanio'.... KKK... lol.
